We shared a special morning with 52 inmates of the Westville High Security prison. 25 Of them had passed the 4th grade of our BEC courses. After the students had received their certificates, the chief prison warden for C Section encouraged us to form a partnership with Correctional Services. He said that they “could only achieve partial rehabilitation with the prisoners. If the prisoners had no spiritual and moral compass, many of them could be re-incarcerated weeks or months after their release back into society”.
After the ceremony we celebrated with the inmates, wardens and security personnel enjoying cakes, muffins and refreshments with them. We plan to continue to encourage the prisoners in the future, aiming to give them “a meaningful hope in their hopeless world.”
